Design a Logo Imagine that you have a business and need a logo. The business should relate to something that you are passionate about. Maybe you are opening a dance studio because that is your hobby. Or perhaps you love tacos so much that you are getting a food truck to serve them on the streets of your city. No matter what type of business you are imagining, your logo will need to make sense for the type of business that it is and represent your product well. After all, ballet slippers are probably not the best image to sell tacos!

You can either draw your logo by hand or use a computer program to make it. The name of your business can be worked into the logo or placed next to it, but you should count on them being placed together. Remember, this logo will need to show up in a variety of places, from your business website to the physical (actual) location of the business, so make sure that it is simple enough to be visible if put on a business card yet interesting enough to be featured on a billboard. This means it needs to work on a large and small scale. To get ideas, look at logos for businesses similar to yours.

When you have created your logo, write one or two sentences for each of the questions below:

What kind of business are you creating?
How does the logo represent your business?
What symbols are used in your logo?
How does the logo express (show) your personality?
How does your logo compare with at least one other logo for a similar business?
What kinds of products do you imagine your logo will be used for?
How does the name of your business work with the logo?
What sort of revisions did you make when designing your logo?
What was the hardest part about creating your logo?
What do you like best about the logo?

Read the excerpt from the building of manhattan. the heater cranked the blower handle to force air up through the fire and heat the rivets in the furiously burning bed of coals. he knew how hot the rivets were by the way their color changed. cherry-red rivets were 1,000 to 1,950 degrees fahrenheit. at the right moment he grabbed one in his tongs and tossed it to the catcher. which phrase cannot be changed in a paraphrase of this text? “the furiously burning bed of coals” “by the way their color changed” “1,000 to 1,950 degrees fahrenheit” “force air up through the fire and heat”
