Why did engraving eclipse woodcut prints as the number one printing technique in the early Renaissance?

Hello!  Eclipse woodcut prints are the oldest printing technique because it is largely responsible for practically all the transmission of playful, scientific, or religious knowledge until well into the Renaissance. It was made with a wooden board, where the text to be captured was carved by hand with a burin.
