you first have to know why you want to break up with them.

when you know why do don't want to be with them anymore, tell them directly. don't lie to them or tell them you don't love them anymore. if you don't want to hurt them be honest and tell them you need space or you need to take a break to be alone for a while.

What I do is kinda cruel but I have some ways you can be polite about it!

You can say
I want to break up. It’s not you or me, it’s Us! And I think that we’d be better off with different people. Break ups happen all the time and I just think that this isn’t going to work out.
