Ijust need someone to proofread the following essay:

the past has been a horrible place, and the present is not any better. imagine how different our world would be if our societies could change something about the past. although we are not able to edit the past like a written story, we can learn about it. by studying our past, we can learn how to create a better future.

think back to social studies and history classes during school. what real reason was there to such classes that drone on about the past? the past could not possibly affect society today, can it? that is where most people are wrong. by learning about the past, good and bad, successes and failures, everyone can guide society to a better future. some people think that learning about the past does the polar opposite, and fuels new terrors to destroy our future. although learning about the worst of the past could possibly inspire another evil, it has a more positive effect, especially in the eyes of the elders from the giver. they use the knowledge of the terrible past to make a utopia. it is these mistakes and memories that make everyone better.

everyone has experienced failure. whether it was as small as a single wrong answer or as big as an entire failed course, it makes us understand that mistakes make us human. the biggest failures and wrong-doings in history have us learn to strive to do better. and it is not only the mistakes, but the happiest memories that us shape our next generation. without these flaws and happy thoughts, we could not keep moving forward, and history could end up repeating itself.

history can become a broken record, if the world is not careful. we have already had some scarily similar events happen, such as how the united states reacted to hitler becoming similar to how the united states is reacting to isis. because of this, the world is starting to loop on a circular track of events. the past is fading into the present – and if we aren’t careful – it will fade into the future. in the giver, one person is singled out to have all of the information on the past, and is able to with all problems because of it. as it says on page 111 of the giver, “it gives us wisdom … without wisdom, i could not fulfill my function…”

as the future draws ever closer, it becomes more and more crucial that the decisions we make do not repeat history. the only way we can stop repeating history is to learn about the society and the world’s past. the mistakes make society learn that we need to do more to get the utopian future that we need. it is the only thing we can do to get society back on track.
