The 2010 Citizens United Case has a significant impact on later elections. Having no limit on campaign donations gave wealthy corporations and individuals much more power. Politicians are much more likely to campaign in the interests of the wealthy because that is how they can receive the most money. Oil companies for example could donate to a candidate to discourage them from voting on a pollution bill that restricts oil drilling. Donation information is public and we can see many big companies donating to certain politicians to sway votes today.
