The main factor that put a limit to the development of absolutist governments worldwide was, without a doubt, the Enlightenment.

During the Enlightenment, which took place during the 1700s, certain ideological currents began to develop that gave rise to what is now known as liberalism, understanding life and freedom as the natural rights that every man possesses by their simple condition as such, and considering that equality between human beings could not be circumvented under any terms.
