research will require him to “scare” children with a loud noise while they are presented with a “fear”
object, a hamster. after phobic conditioning, each subject will be enrolled in a desensitization
program to eliminate or reduce the phobic response.
2. graduate student jane elliot would like to study the development of discrimination. she has obtained
permission to conduct her research at a local elementary school. she will have teachers in the 4th and
5th grades divide their students according to eye color. blue­eyed students will be given “special”
privileges. other students will be denied such privileges. after 4 months, the “special” privileges will
be reversed to the other eye color groups to counter­balance the study.
