How would you describe a metaphor in a literary analysis essay? i tried to write that metaphorically the author conveys a sense of bond with his youth, comparing it to a clot of blood, to the readers visualize the way the berry looks which is also a metaphor for a childlike vision (in a he used those terms to the reader visualize how the berry appears, but how exactly would i write it without making it look awkward? would it just work if i put, "seamus heaney metaphorically conveys a sense of childlike, sweetness with the addition of his use of visual imagery to the readers picture how the blackberry feels/looks." it just seems awkward, i have a great claim, but i'm not sure how to make my body paragraph strong without it sounding weird.
you probably don't know the poem that i am talking about, but it isn't needed for this answer. this is the only quotes i'm asking to revise, "for a full week, the blackberries would ripen. at first, just one, a glossy purple clot among others, red, green, hard as a knot."
should i just say it's just a use of visual imagery and forget about the metaphor that he made have slided in? if you read
credits to: "blackberry-picking" -seamus heaney
