I would say that the main idea about the text is that it emphasizes the struggles of dealing with childhood trauma and what consequences there are when someone does not have the resources necessary to get help.

Diaz talks about his own trauma and how it has followed him ever since, whether that is shown through the influence in his craftsmanship or through his mental health problems.

He also brings up the damaging coping mechanisms he took to when it seemed like he had no other option. This in turn worsened his condition and his depression was even worse.

In the end of the text he talks about how he is currently dealing with it, how seeing a supporting therapist and opening up to his friends and family has helped him in his recovery. But also that the trauma will always be a part of him, it will be a part of his legacy; the story of how he was sexually abused and how his childhood deteriorated before his very eyes.
